Image (1) -- close-up view of the cut vent vanes and rod. The rod picture here is 0.040 inch diameter styrene rod (Evergreen Scale Models #211). The Vanes were cut from 0.020 x 0.250 inch styrene strip styrene (Evergreen Scale Models #129).
Note: Size of these materials will depend on size of vent you are building.

Image (5) -- close-up view of the the finished vane placed in what would be the vent frame. I liken this to hanging folders in a file cabinet. The vanes can be tilted to the desired angle and glued. With several of these vanes glued in parallel to each other you get a miniature vent. The vent frame here was constructed from 0.080 x 0.250 inch strip styrene (Evergreen Scale Models #169).
NOTES:
1) The finished vent can easily be trimmed with quarter round styrene rod before or after it's placed into a model. Just cut the quarter round styrene like a picture frame at 45 degree angles and frame the vent
2) With a little extra effort you can create a miniature vent with working vanes by leaving one or both ends of the rod a little longer so they hang over the edges of the frame and glue individual levers to each rod end. DO NOT glue the vanes in place, instead glue spacers the same thickness as the rods used and slightly shorter than the height of each vane between each vane then cap with two long styrene strips (1 on either side to hold the vanes in place).
