BAST or BASTET?

The mythical goddess of protection Bast is often called Bastet, but her name should be Bast. Older inscriptions look like the top most cartouche, while later inscriptions add a extra glyph with the "t" sound so the name ends up being pronounced Bastet which would be the feminine version of Bast; however the inscriptions already include the glyph for female or woman so it would not be needed.  It's believed scribes began adding the extra "t" sound later because people started to leave off the "t" sound in the name. The scribes added the extra "t" to stress it should be pronounced, but did not intend for the name to be pronounced Bastet.
